Head Coach Evan Cook brings championship experience, proven defensive leadership, and a deep commitment to developing young men to the Decatur High School football program. With nearly a decade of coaching experience across the South Sound, Cook has earned a reputation as one of the region’s most respected defensive minds and relationship-driven leaders, known for building tough, disciplined, and highly competitive football teams.
Originally from Oklahoma City, Coach Cook relocated to Federal Way as a teenager and graduated from Todd Beamer High School in 2008. As a standout two-way lineman for the Titans, he established himself as one of the premier trench players in Washington state, earning multiple All-League, All-Area, and All-State honors from 2005–2007. His physical style of play, relentless motor, and leadership on the field made him one of the most respected players in South Sound football during his era.
Cook continued his football career at Eastern Washington University under Head Coach Beau Baldwin, where he played defensive line during one of the most successful stretches in program history. While at Eastern Washington, the Eagles captured two Big Sky Conference Championships and won the 2010 FCS National Championship. Competing on a title-winning team helped shape Cook’s coaching philosophy, emphasizing preparation, accountability, mental toughness, and the daily standard required to build championship-level programs.
Cook began his coaching career at Todd Beamer before earning his first coordinator opportunity at Mount Tahoma High School, where he served as Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. During his tenure, he helped develop multiple college-level athletes, including future NFL first-round draft pick Taliese Fuaga, who was selected 13th overall in the NFL Draft. His ability to teach physical fundamentals, maximize player development, and build disciplined defensive units quickly established him as one of the area’s rising coaches.
Coach Cook later continued his success at Auburn Riverside High School, where his linebacker units helped power a league championship team while producing multiple All-League selections. Most recently at Decatur, Cook’s linebackers became one of the strengths of the Gator defense, producing three First Team All-NPSL selections, two Second Team honorees, and two Honorable Mention recipients during his tenure. His impact on the program earned him recognition as the 4A NPSL Assistant Coach of the Year and Seahawks Coach of the Week.
Widely respected as both a technician and motivator, Coach Cook is known for demanding excellence while building authentic relationships with his players. His coaching style combines detailed football instruction with mentorship rooted in discipline, resilience, accountability, and competitive toughness. Players consistently praise his ability to challenge them beyond their perceived limits while helping them grow as leaders both on and off the field.
Beyond football, Coach Cook remains deeply invested in the Federal Way community and the development of young people throughout the area. Through mentorship, advocacy, and leadership initiatives, he has dedicated his career to helping student-athletes find purpose, confidence, and direction in life. His championship background, coaching experience, and unwavering commitment to serving youth continue to make him one of the most influential leaders in South Sound high school football.
