Decatur Sweeps NPSL Boys' Throwing Events at Championship Meet

Viliami 'Tony' Puaauli, Class of 2027, entered his second season throwing at Decatur with very specific goals of improving his shot put and discus performance. His improvement has comes in leaps and bounds this spring. Over the course of the last three months, he has continually pushed himself in practice and training to become the 2025-26 North Puget Sound League Shot Put Champion. His improvement has been a reflection of his work and dedication to fine tuning his technique. All of his work has led to his current Personal Record of 51 feet and 1 inch. We are extremely proud of Tony and look forward to seeing him etch his name into the Decatur record books.

Omaha Lutu-Ili, Class of 2027, is in his third season as a Throwing Gator and has improved his discus and shot put production each year. This year he has made leaps and bounds in his techniques and understanding of his throwing mechanics. His consistent work in the ring this year finally showed up big with a Personal Record of 145 feet at the NPSL Championships at Kent-Meridian on 15 May. His NPSL Championship is a reflection of his dedication, discipline, and effort. Next, he sets his eyes on the West Central District Championship Meet and the opportunity to qualify for the WIAA State Championships at the end of May.

Puaauli leads Decatur Throwers to State
The Golden Gators Throwers, led by Viliami Tony Puaauli, qualified four athletes for the WIAA 3A State Track and Field Championships. Tony, after qualifying for State in the discus on the first day of the District Championships, returned on Day 2 of the District Championships to not only qualify but to take first place in the Shot Put with a throw of 50 feet and 1.5 inches. Congratulations to Tony on his District Championship, which comes fresh off the heels of him being crowned the NPSL Shot Put Champion a week earlier!
The Golden Gators Throwers will be fielding their largest contingent of athletes in the throwing events at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships since well before COVID. Tony will be joined at State this weekend by Omaha Lutu-Ili, who qualified and will compete in the Discus, and Irvine Tusi and Osman Hamid, who qualified as teammates in the Unified Shot Put event. Best of luck to our Golden Gators Throwers!
